Former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Tony Aubynn, has underscored the significance of Ghana qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging all stakeholders to give their utmost support to the Black Stars.
The national team currently leads Group I with 19 points from eight matches, with only two games left to play. After being held to a frustrating draw against Chad, the Black Stars bounced back with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night.
Speking to the press Dr. Aubynn—who also serves as a Board Member of Medeama SC—stressed that qualification would reaffirm Ghana’s standing as one of Africa’s football giants.
“Black Stars qualifying for the World Cup is extremely important; it enhances our reputation as a football nation. Ghana is a football powerhouse in Africa, and the records speak for themselves. Qualifying is crucial, and we must do everything possible to secure our place,” he said.
Ghana will look to seal its ticket to the 2026 World Cup—co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada—when they face the Central African Republic and Comoros in their final qualifying fixtures next month.
