Accra, August 2, 2026 –

The MTN Ghana Foundation has received an impressive 5,282 applications for the 2026 edition of its flagship Bright Scholarship Programme, reaffirming the confidence Ghanaian youth continue to place in MTN Ghana’s commitment to expanding access to quality education.

The overwhelming response follows the scholarship application period, which ran from March 1 to May 31, 2026, and reflects the growing demand for educational support among brilliant but financially challenged students across the country.

The Bright Scholarship Programme is one of the MTN Ghana Foundation’s flagship social investment initiatives aimed at removing financial barriers to tertiary education.

The scholarship provides comprehensive support, including tuition, accommodation, stipends for learning materials, and other academic-related expenses throughout the beneficiaries’ course of study.

Commenting on the overwhelming response, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Wiafe, said the high number of applications demonstrates the trust young Ghanaians have in the MTN Ghana Foundation and its commitment to transforming lives through education.

“The 5,282 applications received this year are a strong testament to the confidence Ghanaian youth have in MTN Ghana and the MTN Ghana Foundation. We are encouraged that the Bright Scholarship Programme continues to serve as a beacon of hope for many talented young people seeking to pursue higher education despite financial challenges,” she said.

She added that although it would not be possible to support every applicant, the Foundation remains committed to a transparent, fair and credible selection process.

“We are committed to identifying students with outstanding academic potential and genuine financial need. Education remains one of the most sustainable investments we can make in the future of our country,” she noted.

Mrs. Wiafe announced that interviews and assessments for shortlisted applicants will commence in August 2026 across the country. Following the selection process, 500 scholarships will be awarded in October 2026 for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Through the Bright Scholarship Programme, the MTN Ghana Foundation continues to invest in Ghana’s future by empowering academically gifted young people to achieve their educational aspirations and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Launched in 2018, the MTN Bright Scholarship Programme was introduced in fulfilment of a commitment made by MTN to Ghanaians during the company’s 20th anniversary celebrations in 2016.

Under that commitment, the MTN Ghana Foundation pledged to award 300 scholarships over a three-year period.

Following the remarkable impact of the programme’s first phase, the Foundation renewed the initiative in 2021 as part of MTN Ghana’s 25th anniversary celebrations, expanding its reach and reaffirming its long-term commitment to investing in education and empowering the next generation of Ghanaian leaders.
