The Ejisu Senior High Technical School (ESHTS) has marked its 35th anniversary with a renewed call for government, old students, parents, and other stakeholders to support the institution in addressing its pressing infrastructure challenges.

The anniversary celebration was held under the theme, “Celebrating 35 Years of Holistic Secondary and Technical Education: The Role of Stakeholders.”

Speaking at the celebration, the Headmistress of ESHTS, Madam Grace Asamani, reflected on the school’s 35-year journey, describing it as one characterised by significant achievements, challenges, and transformative experiences.

She said the anniversary provided an opportunity not only to celebrate the school’s accomplishments but also to reflect on the challenges confronting the institution and find lasting solutions to them.

Madam Asamani expressed concern about the school’s infrastructure situation, noting that since its establishment, ESHTS has never had a standard dormitory facility.

She explained that some structures originally intended for accommodation had been converted into classrooms to meet the growing academic needs of the school.

According to her, the school is also in urgent need of a modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, a standard dining hall, a modern kitchen, an assembly hall, additional classrooms, adequate furniture, and a reliable power backup system.

She lamented that the school currently has no generator to provide electricity during power outages, a situation she said affects teaching, learning, and other essential activities.

The Headmistress further revealed that the shortage of furniture has become a major concern, with students sometimes struggling to find tables and chairs during lessons.

She said the accommodation situation was equally worrying, particularly for female students. Part of an uncompleted Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) classroom block is currently being used to accommodate some female students because of the lack of adequate dormitory space.

Madam Asamani added that the only near-standard girls’ dormitory block at the school has only its ground floor completed, leaving the institution with inadequate accommodation facilities for its students.

She therefore made a passionate appeal to the government, old students, corporate organisations, parents, and other stakeholders to come to the aid of ESHTS by supporting projects aimed at improving infrastructure and creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

She stressed that stakeholders have a crucial role to play in shaping the future of holistic secondary and technical education, adding that the development of the school required collective commitment and sustained support.

Madam Asamani expressed optimism that the 35th anniversary would serve as a turning point for the institution and inspire renewed efforts to address its infrastructure challenges.

She said with the necessary support, ESHTS could continue to provide quality secondary and technical education while preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
