Accra, June 23, 2025 — A total of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have officially endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy, throwing their full support behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The endorsement was announced at a high-level meeting held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President from 2017 to 2025 and was the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, was present at the event.
The former MMDCEs, who served during the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration from 2017 to 2024, pledged not only their votes but also their time, resources, and expertise to ensure Dr. Bawumia secures the party’s nomination and victory in the next presidential elections.
> “Our endorsement is not merely symbolic; it is a strategic and operational commitment,” the group stated. “With 95% of us having previously served as Constituency and Regional Executives—some for over 16 years—we possess an intimate understanding of the NPP’s structures, dynamics, and electoral needs. We will deploy this experience to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s message resonates in every corner of Ghana.”
According to the former appointees, Dr. Bawumia embodies both continuity and change—representing a consolidation of the party’s developmental legacy while also offering bold, innovative ideas to build a modern, inclusive economy.
They also highlighted his broad appeal across diverse voter segments, including the youth, business leaders, and floating voters, as a major advantage heading into the 2028 elections.
The NPP has scheduled its next presidential primaries for January 31, 2026, a date ratified by the party’s National Council during a meeting on June 17, 2025, in line with Article 13(1)(1) of the party’s constitution.
