Former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has been elected Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr Okoe-Boye secured 490 votes to defeat his contender, Alfred Boye, who obtained 172 votes, giving him a decisive 318-vote victory in the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

His election comes at a crucial time for the NPP as the party seeks to reorganise and strengthen its structures in Greater Accra ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The party suffered a major setback in the region during the 2024 elections, losing eight of its 14 parliamentary seats and being reduced to five seats.

The development has intensified calls for stronger grassroots mobilisation, improved coordination and renewed strategies to rebuild the party’s support base and reclaim constituencies lost in the previous election.

As Regional Chairman, Dr Okoe-Boye is expected to work closely with constituency executives, regional party officials and other stakeholders to strengthen the NPP’s organisational structures across Greater Accra.

He will also be responsible for coordinating the party’s regional and constituency activities as the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections.

His decisive victory provides him with a strong mandate to lead the party’s rebuilding efforts in the region, mobilise the grassroots and pursue strategies aimed at restoring the NPP’s parliamentary strength in Greater Accra.

The new regional leadership will therefore be expected to focus on unity, effective grassroots engagement and strategic organisation as the party works to regain the confidence of voters and reclaim lost seats in the next general election.
