Accra, Ghana — 18th Oct 2025

Story by Isaac Ochem

The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Sefwi Wiawso, Festus Bumakama Agyapong, has paid a courtesy call on the former President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at his office in Accra.

The visit, described as both fruitful and insightful, focused on the developmental progress of the Western North Region—one of the six new regions created under President Akufo-Addo’s administration—and the ongoing Sefwi Wiawso Project, a strategic initiative aimed at transforming Sefwi Wiawso into a model city that can compete with Ghana’s most developed areas.

Mr. Agyapong was accompanied by his brother, Nana Brenya, during the visit. The two, who are sons of the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangamah II, reiterated their shared commitment to the advancement of their homeland and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic transformation of both Sefwi Wiawso and the entire Western North Region.

Expressing his appreciation to the former President, Mr. Agyapong commended Nana Akufo-Addo for his visionary leadership and his instrumental role in granting the Western North Region its regional status. He further pledged his unwavering loyalty to the ideals of the NPP and reaffirmed his determination to spearhead development projects that would improve livelihoods in Sefwi Wiawso.

According to Mr. Agyapong, the meeting also provided an opportunity to seek the former President’s counsel and blessings, describing Nana Akufo-Addo as “one of the great godfathers of the NPP.” He noted that it was also a moment to convey a farewell message to the immediate past President and to express gratitude for his enduring support and mentorship.

Reaffirming his commitment to the Sefwi Wiawso Project, Mr. Agyapong emphasized that the initiative will focus on modern infrastructure, job creation, youth empowerment, and innovative programs designed to elevate Sefwi Wiawso to national prominence.

> “When the grace of God is upon your life, and the godfather’s arms are strong behind you, no weapon formed against you shall prosper,” He emphasized.

In his response, Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lauded Festus Bumakama Agyapong for his humility, dedication, and passion for community development. He extended warm greetings to the chiefs, elders, and people of Sefwi Wiawso and the Western North Region, urging them to remain united and steadfast in their belief in the NPP’s vision for growth and prosperity.

The meeting concluded on a warm and cordial note, further cementing the relationship between the former President and the NPP leadership in the Western North Region. Both men reaffirmed their shared vision of progress, unity, and sustainable development for Sefwi Wiawso and Ghana as a whole.
