Accra, Ghana, June 30, 2026 –
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), widely regarded as the backbone of Ghana’s economy, are increasingly adopting mobile money and digital payment solutions to improve operational efficiency, strengthen financial management and unlock new opportunities for growth and access to finance, according to MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL).
Ahead of the 2026 World SME Day commemorated on June 27, the Chief Commercial Operations Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, Abdul Razak Issaka-Ali, highlighted the growing importance of digital financial services in helping businesses overcome operational challenges and drive sustainable growth.
Speaking during the Citi Business Festival on-air series, Mr. Issaka-Ali explained that digital financial services have evolved far beyond simple money transfers and are now serving as essential business management tools for entrepreneurs across the country.
He noted that many SMEs continue to face challenges related to cash handling, theft and limited visibility over daily business transactions.
According to him, digital payment solutions are helping business owners reduce these risks while improving accountability and financial control.
“At the heart of this evolution is MMFL’s commitment to transforming the way people do business for the better,” he stated. “It is not just about digitising payments; it is about creating real impact for businesses.”
Mr. Issaka-Ali explained that merchant payment solutions now provide business owners with the ability to monitor transactions in real time, giving them better oversight of revenue and day-to-day operations.
He added that some Mobile Money solutions are specifically designed to allow attendants and employees to receive customer payments without direct access to business funds, helping businesses minimise internal leakages and improve transparency.
“We have tailored our solutions to meet the needs of SMEs. Business owners can track every payment made into their accounts, making it easier to manage cash flow, improve operational efficiency and make informed business decisions,” he said.
According to him, the growing visibility over business transactions is also helping SMEs build credible financial records, which can strengthen their ability to access credit and other financial services.
Beyond digital payments, Mr. Issaka-Ali identified access to finance as one of the major areas where digital financial services are transforming the SME sector.
He explained that digital transaction histories are enabling financial institutions to assess customers based on their financial activity and consistency, rather than relying solely on traditional collateral requirements.
“In the past, many small businesses struggled to access loans because they lacked assets that financial institutions could use to assess their creditworthiness.
Today, digital financial footprints are opening new opportunities for entrepreneurs to secure funding and grow their businesses,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Mr. Issaka-Ali said there are still significant opportunities to deepen digital financial inclusion, particularly among SMEs operating in rural and underserved communities where digital adoption remains relatively low.
He expressed confidence that continued innovation, stronger collaboration across the financial ecosystem and customer-focused solutions would further empower Ghanaian businesses, improve productivity and support the country’s transition toward a more inclusive digital economy.
MobileMoney Fintech LTD reaffirmed its commitment to building Ghana’s digital future by unlocking growth opportunities for individuals, businesses and communities through innovative financial solutions.
