Accra, October 1, 2025 – The Minority in Parliament has called on the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, to provide a comprehensive account of all revenues collected from the GH¢10,000 daily fine imposed on MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv.
The demand comes after the Ministry enforced sanctions on the pay-TV service provider for failing to submit detailed subscription pricing information, as required under the Electronic Communications Act. The penalties, which took effect on August 15, 2025, followed DStv’s failure to meet an extended deadline set by the National Communications Authority (NCA).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 1, the Minority caucus on the Communications and Information Committee accused the Minister of inconsistency. They recalled that Mr. George had earlier rejected any notion of service “upgrades” and insisted on nothing less than a 30% reduction in subscription prices.
“The minister should inform every Ghanaian of his reason for changing his initial stance on not accepting any upgrade but price reduction of not less than 30%. The minister should account for the amount collected by the government from the GH¢10,000 imposed on DStv since its inception,” the statement, signed by Ranking Member Matthew Nyindam, read.
The caucus also dismissed the Minister’s recent comments as “arrogant and disrespectful,” noting that although they had formally requested a committee meeting to address the DStv impasse, it remained the responsibility of the Chairman – a Majority MP – to convene such sessions.
While the Minority declined to demand an apology for what they described as insults directed at them, they reaffirmed their commitment to constructive parliamentary oversight and transparency in the management of the DStv pricing dispute.
