The Minority in Parliament on Thursday staged a walkout from the House and marched to the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to demand the release of Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party Chairman.

Led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the group expressed concern over what they described as the continued detention of Mr. Boasiako, who has reportedly been held in EOCO custody after failing to meet his bail conditions.

Chanting slogans and holding placards, the MPs converged at EOCO’s headquarters in Accra, calling on the investigative body to clarify the circumstances surrounding Wontumi’s detention and ensure his rights are respected.

“We want to know where our brother is and why he is still being held despite the reported bail,” Afenyo-Markin told reporters. “This is not just about Wontumi.

This is about the rule of law and ensuring that no Ghanaian is treated unfairly, regardless of political affiliation.”

The demonstration drew the attention of EOCO officials, but as of the time of the march, no formal statement had been issued by the agency.

Mr. Boasiako, a prominent figure within the NPP, is said to be under investigation, though details of the case remain unclear.

His prolonged stay in EOCO custody has sparked political tensions and drawn criticism from supporters and now members of the opposition in Parliament.

The Minority has vowed to continue pressing for transparency and justice in the matter, calling on civil society and legal advocacy groups to join in ensuring due process is followed
