The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has lauded the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his pivotal contribution to enhancing policing and safeguarding peace, particularly within the Ashanti Region.

The commendation was made on Tuesday, January 6, when the Asantehene paid a courtesy call on the IGP at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra.

His Majesty was welcomed with a guard of honour mounted by officers of the Service, reflecting the high esteem in which he is held.

In his remarks, the IGP highlighted the critical role of traditional leaders in the promotion of law, order, and community cohesion.

He described chiefs as indispensable partners in effective policing and praised Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his consistent support to the Service.

Mr. Yohuno noted that the Asantehene’s personal interventions in long-standing land and chieftaincy disputes across the Ashanti Region have been instrumental in restoring calm, preventing violence, and relieving security agencies of significant pressure.

He explained that such efforts reaffirm the constitutional importance of the chieftaincy institution under the 1992 Constitution, which positions traditional authority as an essential pillar of governance and national stability.

Addressing the issue of illegal mining, the IGP further commended the Asantehene for directing chiefs under his jurisdiction to take firm action against the menace.

He said Otumfuo’s stance demonstrates the continued relevance and influence of traditional leadership in confronting modern security and environmental challenges.
