Five NPP Flagbearer Hopefuls Sign Peace Pact Ahead of Internal Contest

The five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were on Tuesday invited to sign a Peace Pact in accordance with the party’s customs, traditions, and established practices at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The agreement, formally presented as a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), requires all contestants to accept the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, irrespective of the results.

When the MOU was presented for signing, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong took time to carefully review the document before appending his signature.

Party sources say his decision to thoroughly examine the agreement reflected prudence and diligence rather than any reluctance to endorse the process.

According to the sources, Hon. Agyapong raised concerns that the document did not explicitly provide for a critical safeguard—namely, the nullification of results from polling centres where proven irregularities or procedural breaches may occur.

He also noted that the agreement is expected to remain binding beyond the primaries and could potentially extend through to the 2028 general elections.

In light of these implications, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong insisted that all clauses in the MOU be clearly defined, precise, and free from ambiguity.

He maintained that a document of such importance must adequately protect the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes.

Observers have described his measured approach as characteristic of a principled and forward-looking leader who understands that signing an agreement is not a mere formality, but a binding commitment with long-term consequences for the party.

His insistence on clarity, plain language, and internal consistency, the observers note, was driven by a strong belief in due process, fairness, and respect for party rules.

Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong reaffirmed his confidence in the values and principles of the New Patriotic Party, while underscoring his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the preservation of the party’s institutional credibility.
