The Kumawu Zongo branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuse to agreed the potential nomination of Mr. Akwasi Amankwaah (Tom C), a  former parliamentary candidate, as the District Chie  Executive (DCE) for the area.

Secretary of the group’s election directorate Sualey Olanto Yakubu, expressed discontent at a press conference, emphasized that the nomination would be an affront to their integrity.

Mr. Akwasi Amankwaah,  was the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Kumawu in the recent by-election. However, the controversy stems from a derogatory comment allegedly made by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, former finance minister, implying he wouldn’t allow a native from the Zongo community to lead the party in the constituency.

The Zongo community played a pivotal role in the party’s recent electoral success, significantly increasing the party’s votes. Yakubu emphasized that their efforts and loyalty warrant respect, not insults.

The community’s frustration boiled over during the press conference, with some youth dismantling party office furniture and property.

The group has recommend an alternative candidate, Shamsu Huda, the deputy constituency secretary, who has tirelessly worked for the party in the constituency.

They believe Huda’s dedication and qualifications make him an ideal candidate for the DCE position.

Olanto Yakubu appeal to President John Dramani Mahama and Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim to consider their plea and appoint Shamsu Huda as the DCE or offer alternative advice.

The NDC’s Kumawu Zongo branch is resolute in its stance, seeking recognition and respect for their contributions to the party.

The press conference ended in destruction of the party office and other important items used in furnishing the party office. The situation highlights the need for the party to address the concerns of its members and ensure that their contributions are valued and respected.
