Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Education Minister and current MP for Bosomtwe, officially declared his intention to run for NPP flagbearer for the 2028 elections, underscoring his track record in education reform (Free SHS expansion, STEM initiatives, infrastructure improvement) and promoting the theme .

# Railway Market Traders Throw Their Weight

In the Ashanti Region, particularly at Railway Market in Kumasi, market women and traders have recently voiced support for Adutwum.

At a press briefing, trader Adwoa Animah praised his service record, stating that though “he has not been in politics for long, he has distinguished himself in service”  .

This local endorsement strengthens Adutwum’s momentum in an NPP stronghold where grassroots backing matters.

# A Competitive Field

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate (and ex‑Vice President), remains the front-runner, having secured strong delegate support previously.

Other prominent contenders include Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong, both of whom have also declared their bids  .

The party is in introspection mode following its 2024 defeat to the NDC, and traders are calling for a “viable” candidate—some even cautioning against automatically backing Bawumia again  .
