The Minister of Education has directed the immediate suspension of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education disclosed that the Minister had instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to suspend Mr Abdulai pending a full investigation into the allegations.
The Minister has also requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to initiate investigations into the matter to establish the facts surrounding the alleged misconduct.
Describing the allegations as serious, the Ministry stressed that acts of sexual misconduct of such nature would not be tolerated in any educational institution in the country.
The Ministry emphasised that parents and guardians entrusted their children to teachers and school authorities with the expectation that they would protect, guide and safeguard them from harm, rather than subject them to abuse.
It further underscored the responsibility of educators and school administrators to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.
The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all schools across the country remain safe and secure environments where students can pursue their education without fear of abuse or exploitation.
The suspension is expected to allow the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The Ministry urged all stakeholders in the education sector to prioritise the safety, welfare and protection of students in order to maintain public confidence in the country’s educational system.
