An immediate past president of the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACC) Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso I, has urged choristers and Christian leaders to recognize that their calling goes beyond singing beautifully,
stressing the need for them to allow the Word of God to shape their character, guide their decisions and influence their service to God and humanity.
According to him, Christian music must transcend entertainment and become a powerful instrument for communicating faith, hope, love and the transforming power of God’s Word.
Nana Dr. Dankawoso made the call when he served as Chairman of the 20th Biennial Connexional Conference of the Association of Methodist Church Choirs-Ghana (GHAMEC), hosted by the Effiduase Diocese in Asante Mampong.
Sharing his personal experience, Nana Dr Dankawo I said he joined the choir at the age of 12, noting that his years of service had profoundly influenced his life.
“My experience in the choir over the years has profoundly shaped my life, teaching me discipline, hard work, commitment and dedication to the Lord’s work.”
Nana Dr. Dankawoso, who is also Board Chairman of Juaben Community Bank, said the choir had played an important role in his spiritual journey and had strengthened his relationship with God.
He expressed the conviction that the ministry of music could touch lives, strengthen faith and draw people closer to God.
He therefore encouraged choristers, particularly the youth, to cherish the ministry and allow God to use their talents for His glory.
He also urged delegates at the conference to put the interests of GHAMEC above personal considerations as they deliberated on the affairs of the association, elected leaders and charted a path for its future.
He called for decisions to be guided by prayer, wisdom, humility and a genuine desire to advance the work of God.
Nana Dr. Dankawoso further challenged young choristers to recognize the responsibility entrusted to them, saying their voices, discipline, conduct and commitment could inspire congregations, reach communities and draw people closer to Christ.
He expressed the hope that GHAMEC would continue to nurture choirs that were not only musically excellent but also spiritually mature and socially responsible.
Call for Financial Empowerment
Nana Dr. Dankawoso also proposed the establishment of credit unions within Methodist church choirs across the country as a means of promoting the financial independence and welfare of choristers.
He suggested that with an estimated membership of about 35,000 choristers, and each member contributing GH¢10 monthly, the association could mobilize significant funds to support members and undertake financial empowerment initiatives.
He encouraged the leadership of the church and GHAMEC to explore the proposal as part of broader efforts to improve the economic wellbeing of choristers.
Nana Dr. Dankawoso described the conference as an important milestone in the life of GHAMEC, bringing together members from across Ghana and beyond for fellowship, worship, learning, reflection and deliberation.
He commended the leadership of GHAMEC and the conference planning committee for their dedication and commitment towards organizing the gathering.
He expressed the hope that the conference would renew members’ commitment to service, strengthen bonds of fellowship among the various dioceses and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the Methodist Church Ghana and the transformation of society.
