The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the successful and peaceful conduct of its presidential primary, which produced former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2028 general election.
In a statement, the NDC described the exercise as a commendable milestone in Ghana’s democratic journey, noting that the absence of violence reflected growing political maturity within the country’s multiparty system.
The opposition party also praised the Ghana Police Service for its professional and effective security deployment, which it said contributed significantly to maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
According to the NDC, the participation of the NPP and other political parties in transparent and orderly internal elections forms part of a broader national responsibility to strengthen and deepen Ghana’s democracy.
The party further acknowledged the concession and reconciliatory messages issued by the unsuccessful aspirants in the NPP contest, expressing optimism that such statements would be backed by concrete actions to promote unity and cohesion within the governing party.
The NDC stressed that peaceful internal party elections are essential to consolidating Ghana’s democratic gains and ensuring political stability as the country prepares for future national elections
