MEDIA RELEASE
Accra, July 31, 2025
MTN Ghana has once again distinguished itself as a leader in excellence, securing four prestigious awards — including the coveted Overall Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year — at the 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA) held at the Aqua Safari Resort in Ada.
The awards ceremony, organized by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana, capped a successful National Project Management Conference (NPMC) under the theme “Innovating for Prosperity: How Project Management Will Shape Ghana’s Economic Future.”
MTN Ghana’s PMO was recognized for delivering strategically aligned, benefits-driven projects, focusing on priority investments, closely tracking performance, and achieving 100% of its targets. This reflects the team’s commitment to strong execution, value creation, and alignment with business goals.
In addition to the PMO of the Year, MTN Ghana won:
Telecom Company Project of the Year – NextGen MoMo App
Project Manager of the Year (1st Runner-Up) – Selorm Kove
Project of the Year (2nd Runner-Up) – Massive-MiMO Technology Project
NextGen MoMo App – Driving Fintech Innovation
The NextGen MoMo App, MTN Ghana’s flagship fintech project, clinched the Telecom Company Project of the Year award. The app supports all four pillars of MTN Ghana’s technology strategy — Platforms, Ecosystems & Services, Agile Operating Model, Connectivity & Monetization of Infrastructure, and Customer Experience — delivering a streamlined interface, biometric authentication, QR payments, phonebook-based transfers, utility bill payments, and digital lending.
By positioning MoMo as more than just a transaction tool, the app is advancing financial inclusion, deepening customer engagement, and boosting revenue.
Leadership Excellence – Selorm Kove
As 1st Runner-Up for Project Manager of the Year, Selorm Kove was celebrated for his data-driven leadership and rapid execution in rolling out the Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MiMO) projects. His introduction of performance tracking tools, improved stakeholder coordination, and predictive methodologies has significantly enhanced project delivery speed, teamwork, and operational efficiency.
Massive-MiMO Project – Transforming Network Performance
The Massive-MiMO Project, which earned the 2nd Runner-Up for Project of the Year, upgraded existing 4G infrastructure in 10 regions — including Greater Accra and Ashanti — to deliver up to eight times faster data speeds in high-traffic areas. This was achieved without building new sites, leveraging current spectrum to boost scalability and supporting MTN Ghana’s Ambition 2025 strategy.
Commitment to Excellence
Receiving the awards on behalf of MTN Ghana, Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager for Base Station Subsystems Implementation, reaffirmed the team’s resilience and high standards in project execution.
William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer, attributed the success to a culture of accountability, innovation, and best-practice project management, emphasizing the role of cross-departmental collaboration and proactive stakeholder engagement in delivering award-winning results.
> “These achievements underscore our commitment to delivering projects that not only meet but exceed expectations, driving innovation and contributing to Ghana’s digital and economic transformation,” William noted.
