Story by Henry Ameyaw

The Head Pastor of the Counsel of God Church at Afrancho Bronkong in Kumasi, Rev. John Osei, has cautioned ministers of God to desist from engaging in partisan politics and rather focus on preaching the Word of God to win souls for Christ.
Rev. Osei described it as “very sad” to see men of God, who are supposed to spread the gospel, turning into politicians because of money. According to him, some have also become false prophets who make fake prophecies for personal gain.
He questioned how a minister who becomes politically aligned can boldly advise or correct politicians when they make abusive or ungodly statements. “This is one of the major problems we are facing in the country,” he said.
Rev. Osei further expressed concern that some pastors have allowed their church premises to be used as political platforms. He stressed that “the church is meant for Christians to listen to the Word of God, not to serve as a party office.”
He noted that ministers of God are supposed to speak against wrongdoings in the nation, not involve themselves in politics. “Because some pastors have become politicians, they can no longer speak boldly against illegal mining (galamsey) and other social vices,” he added.
Commenting on illegal mining, Rev. Osei said the activity is destroying the environment, especially water bodies and farmlands. He warned that if the situation continues, “a time will come when there will be deformities in childbirth.”
He also lamented that due to the effects of galamsey, traders now have to travel to Burkina Faso to buy tomatoes and onions.
Rev. Osei concluded by expressing his disappointment in the current democratic system, stating that he is against the way politics is practiced in the country, particularly by the two main political parties, the NPP and NDC.
