August 6, 2025 – Accra:
The Government of Ghana has formally received the mortal remains of the eight individuals who perished in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The solemn ceremony took place on Wednesday night, August 6, at Burma Camp, where a government delegation led by the Chief of Staff paid their final respects.
The Ghana Armed Forces’ Z-9 helicopter, which had taken off from Accra en route to Obuasi, crashed shortly after departure. All eight occupants were burned to death in the wreckage.
Christian and Islamic clergy offered prayers over the coffins during the emotional ceremony, which was attended by military officials, government representatives, and grieving families.
The deceased include senior government officials and military personnel:
1. Dr Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
2. Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
4. Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, National Democratic Congress (NDC)
5. Mr Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate Obuasi East
6. Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
7. Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
8. Sergeant Ernest Addo
