Story by Isaac Ochem
We, the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana, wish to bring to the attention of the general public, the media, and relevant stakeholders, the plight of farmers across the country.
As the backbone of Ghana’s economy, agriculture is a vital sector that deserves more attention and coverage. Unfortunately, farming activities and issues are often overlooked, and farmers’ voices are seldom heard on mainstream media.
We acknowledge the importance of sports and other sectors, but we believe that agriculture is the heartbeat of our nation. It’s time for the media to give farming the attention it deserves.
With our humble suggestion, we are calling on media houses across the country to consider farming as the heart of the country. While sports is discussed every day on radio and TV, we, the Concerned Farmers, are calling on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to urge media houses to allocate at least 15 minutes of their airtime to discuss agriculture.
This will enable government officials, policymakers, and the general public to understand the challenges facing farmers, and the contributions of agriculture to the country’s economy. It’s time for farmers’ voices to be heard, and for agriculture to take its rightful place in the national discourse.
We hope that our plea will be considered, and we look forward to seeing more coverage of agricultural issues and farmers’ concerns in the media.
Signed,
Farmer General Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu II
