The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua, Seth Osei Akoto, has officially completed and commissioned an 18-year-abandoned Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Okyerekrom.
The facility is set to provide vital healthcare services to approximately 20 surrounding rural communities, addressing a longstanding gap in medical care.
Originally initiated in 2008 to improve healthcare delivery in the area, the CHPS compound remained unfinished for nearly two decades, leaving residents without immediate access to basic health services.
For years, community members were compelled to travel long distances to Nyinahini for medical attention—a situation that reportedly led to preventable deaths, particularly during emergencies.
At the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Osei Akoto highlighted the importance of completing abandoned development projects, describing it as a key focus of his parliamentary agenda.
He expressed optimism that the operational CHPS compound would significantly improve healthcare access and alleviate the hardships faced by residents in need of medical care.
