The Chief Executive Officer of Senyah Farms, John Senyah, has called on the government to invest in the production of powdered eggs as a strategic move to preserve eggs and expand Ghana’s export potential in the poultry sector.
According to Mr. Senyah, transforming fresh eggs into powdered form will significantly help address the persistent challenge of post-harvest losses faced by poultry farmers across the country.
He explained that many poultry farmers suffer financial losses due to the short shelf life of eggs and the lack of adequate storage and processing facilities.
Speaking in an interview with GhNewsday Online, Mr. Senyah stated that powdered egg production has become a profitable industry in many developed countries because of its long preservation period,
convenience, and high demand in the food processing industry. He stressed that Ghana can equally take advantage of the growing international market if the government supports local poultry farmers and investors to establish egg processing factories.
He further explained that powdered eggs can be used by bakeries, hotels, restaurants, confectionery industries, and food manufacturing companies, making it an important value-added product for both local consumption and export.
According to him, such an initiative would not only stabilize egg prices on the market but also create sustainable jobs for the youth within the agricultural value chain.
Mr. Senyah emphasized that the poultry sector remains one of the key contributors to Ghana’s agricultural economy and therefore deserves strategic investment and modernization.
He noted that with the right policies, incentives, and infrastructure, Ghana could become one of the leading producers and exporters of powdered eggs in the West African sub-region.
He also appealed to financial institutions and development partners to support poultry farmers with affordable loans and modern processing technology to improve productivity and competitiveness in the sector.
The Ashanti Regional Organizer of the Poultry Farmers Association further stated that investing in powdered egg production would increase demand for locally produced eggs, thereby improving the incomes of poultry farmers and encouraging more people to venture into poultry farming.
Mr. Senyah expressed optimism that government intervention in the poultry industry would help reduce the country’s dependence on imported poultry products while promoting local production and food security.
He therefore urged policymakers to prioritize the establishment of egg processing and preservation facilities as part of broader efforts to revamp and industrialize Ghana’s poultry industry
