The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a detailed timetable for its internal primaries ahead of the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, the NDC said nominations for prospective parliamentary aspirants will open on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the party’s regional office. The filing of completed nomination forms is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
According to the statement, vetting of aspirants, balloting, and the resolution of any appeals will take place on Wednesday, January 28.
The party’s parliamentary primary is expected to be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, within the Ayawaso East constituency.
The nomination form fee has been pegged at GH¢5,000, while aspirants are required to pay a filing fee of GH¢40,000. Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities will enjoy a 50 per cent reduction in both fees.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for the Ayawaso East by-election, following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.
The EC noted that nominations for candidates contesting the by-election will be received at its Ayawaso East Municipal Office at North Ridge from Monday,
February 9, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Submissions will be accepted daily between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Prospective candidates are also required to download nomination forms from the Electoral Commission’s website between Friday, January 16, and Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
