The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has officialy announced the allocation of GH¢203 million for the payment of teacher trainee allowances and GH¢480 million for nursing trainee allowances.

He made this statement when he was presenting the 2025 Budget statement and Economic Policy to Parliament today.

The news comes as a relief to trainees, settling concerns over the possible cancellation of their allowances.

The Minister of Education, Hon Haruna Iddrisu announced the government’s decision to suspend feeding allowances for teacher trainees in colleges of education across the country.

Hon Haruna Iddrisu disclosed this at a meeting with principals of various colleges of education in Accra, explained that the policy was unsustainable and did not align with global best practices in higher education.

As an alternative, he emphasized that the government planned to replace the feeding programme with an enhanced student loan scheme, enabling trainees to cater for their own living expenses, including meals.
