VRA Refutes Claims Over Nkawkaw Emergency Landing Helicopter

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has refuted media reports claiming it owns the helicopter with registration number 9G-AFW, which made an emergency landing in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, on Monday, August 11, 2025.

According to the Authority, the incident—attributed to poor visibility caused by bad weather—followed a similar emergency landing at Ajumako Kokoben on Wednesday, August 6.

In a statement, VRA’s Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, Surv. David Adomako Mensah, said:

> “We would like to state unequivocally that the said helicopter does not belong to VRA, and neither does VRA operate aviation services.”

He clarified that the aircraft is owned by Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL), an entirely separate entity registered with the Petroleum Commission.

“Our mandate is to provide affordable, reliable electricity to power economies and add value to lives. Aviation services are not part of our mandate,” the statement stressed.

VRA urged the public and media to disregard the inaccurate reports and verify information with its Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department before publication.

For official queries, the Authority advised contacting corpcomm@vra.com or reaching Francis Kobena Abban, Manager of Corporate Communications and Branding, on 0302-218551 or 0245-823734.
