Earlier yesterday, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Dr Frank Amoakohene together with members of the Regional Security Council, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), government officials, and party executives, had the honour of welcoming His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to the Ashanti Region at the Prempeh I International Airport.
The President is in the region to join His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman to observe the last Akwasidae of the year — a sacred and highly significant traditional occasion that embodies the rich cultural heritage, values, and identity of the Ashanti people.

Akwasidae, which brings together chiefs, elders, and subjects of Asanteman, serves as a time for reflection, thanksgiving, and the renewal of loyalty to the Golden Stool and the Asante Kingdom.
The presence of the President at this revered ceremony highlights the importance of tradition in our national life and the recognition of the vital role traditional authorities play in governance and social cohesion.
His visit underscores the deep respect and strong partnership between the state and traditional institutions, and reaffirms our shared commitment to unity, peace, and cultural preservation.
It also reflects the government’s resolve to work closely with chiefs and opinion leaders in advancing development and improving the lives of our people.
As we conclude the year and prepare for the journey ahead, the President’s participation in this historic gathering sends a powerful message of inclusiveness, national cohesion, and collective responsibility towards building a prosperous Ghana for all.
