
The Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Haruna Salifu, has shared his experiences following his recent pilgrimage to Mecca in 2025.
A large number of constituents and well-wishers gathered at the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi to welcome him back home. The joyful reception was a testament to the deep affection and respect he commands across political and religious divides in the constituency.
Speaking to the media, Alhaji Salifu expressed heartfelt gratitude to Allah for granting him a safe and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage.
“Mecca is a holy place for Muslims all over the world. The main activities there revolve around prayers and communal meals,” he noted. “We were treated well, and everything was well organized.”
Reflecting on the experience, Alhaji Salifu emphasized its profound impact on his personal life, spiritual journey, and professional responsibilities. He described the pilgrimage as a life-changing moment that deepened his faith and renewed his sense of purpose.
“I encourage every Ghanaian Muslim to save during their youthful years in order to one day experience the true essence of Islam in Mecca,” he advised.
He also shared a remarkable aspect of discipline during the pilgrimage: “When it’s time for prayers, security personnel ensure that everyone halts all activities until the prayer is over. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of devotion.”
The warm welcome by constituents—particularly the youth—highlighted the strong bond between Alhaji Salifu and the community he serves. His ability to unite people across party lines and religious backgrounds continues to earn him admiration and respect throughout Atwima Mponua.
