The Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary (SUWMA) in the Kumasi Diocese, of the Methodist Church- Ghana, on Saturday marked a solemn yet inspiring milestone with a 25th Anniversary Memorial Lecture in honour of the late Mrs. Agnes Afriyie Amankwah, the first Connexional President and a foundational pillar of the women’s ministry.
The event, held at the historic Wesley Cathedral at Adum in Kumasi, brought together church leaders, women’s fellowship groups, and congregants from across the diocese to celebrate the enduring legacy of a woman whose life of faith, discipline, and selfless service continues to shape the Methodist Church a quarter of a century after her passing.
Delivering the keynote address as Special Guest of Honour, the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, urged the congregation to move beyond mere remembrance and actively emulate the values and principles Mrs. Amankwah stood for.
Quoting Hebrews 13:7, he reminded the gathering: “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”
According to him, the memorial lecture was not simply an occasion to reflect on the past, but a call to action for Christian women and the wider church to continue building on the strong foundations laid by the late Methodist leader.
“She did not merely hold a position; she built a movement. She laid foundations that you are still standing on today. The greatest honour we can give her is not words, but continuation,” Hon. Asenso-Boakye emphasised.
He commended the leadership and members of the Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary for preserving and advancing the vision of their founding mother through consistent service to the Church, families, and society at large.
He further highlighted the critical role women continue to play in the Church, citing the contributions of his wife, Juliet Asenso-Boakye, President of the Bethany Society in Accra, and his mother-in-law, Grace, a Circuit President, as living examples of how Mrs. Amankwah’s legacy endures through present-day leadership.
The memorial lecture formed part of a series of activities organised by the Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana to honour the life and work of Mrs. Agnes Afriyie Amankwah and to inspire renewed commitment among women in ministry and church service.
As the Susanna Wesley Mission Auxiliary marks this 25-year milestone, the message from the event resonated clearly with all present: a life devoted to Christ does not end with death—it multiplies through generations of faithful service.
