
A momentous occasion unfolded at the Abenase Paramount Chief Palace on Friday, marking the enstoolment of Nana Kwame Sackey as the new Chief of Akim Essam.
The event was not just a transition of leadership; but rather it was a vibrant celebration of culture, heritage, and community unity.
The Abenase Paramount Chief, Nana Okumkom IV welcomed Nana Sackey and his entourage to his Palace, adorned with traditional regalia and symbols of authority, served as the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. The air was filled with anticipation as community members, dignitaries, and traditional leaders gathered to witness this significant event. Colorful Kuntunkuni cloths and vibrant beads adorned the attendees, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the people of Akim.
The ceremony began with traditional rites as the custom demand.
The elders of Akim Abenase and Essam
dressed in traditional attire, recited ancestral prayers by invoking past chiefs spirits through pooing of libation, emphasizing the importance of leadership and responsibility.
At the heart of the ceremony was the moment of enstoolment. Nana Kwame Sackey II, dressed in resplendent traditional Fugu, approached the Asipim stool with Akofena, a symbol of authority and leadership. As he stood before Dabehene Asipim stool, the crowd erupted in joyous cheers, celebrating the beginning of his reign. He was presented with Akofena, signifying his acceptance of the responsibilities that come with chieftaincy cycles, as swear in, Nana Sackey II, well known in Akuapem enclave as Obiri Sackey (OSACK) pledged to uphold the values of justice, peace, and development, ensuring that the traditions and customs of the Akim Essam people are preserved.
He swore an allegiance to Abenase paramount of his respect and service to the Dabehene of Abenase and that if he decline to perform his services to his people, same to nananom, he shall forfeit to be the chief of Akim Essam.
In his inaugural address, Nana Kwame Sackey expressed gratitude to the people of Akim Essam for their unwavering support. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing the challenges facing the community such as Technical education, apprenticeship, and empowering the youth especially the bright but needy students who are able to perform well in the BECE exam.
Following the formal proceedings, the celebration continued with traditional music, dance, and feasting. Local drummers and dancers showcased their talents, captivating the audience with energetic performances.

The enstoolment of Nana Kwame Sackey II as Chief of Akim Essam was a historic event that underscored the rich cultural heritage of the Akim people. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Essam community’s history.
Filled with hope and aspirations for a brighter future, the community came together to celebrate the spirit of unity and tradition shone brightly, promising a prosperous journey ahead under the leadership of Nana Kwame Sackey II.
