The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, joined members of the Council of State, Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and other distinguished dignitaries at the Manhyia Palace to observe the first Akwasidae of the year.

The high-profile delegation included Council of State members, Hon. Betty Mould-Iddrisu and Chairman Yaw Obimpeh.

The visit underscored the continued cooperation between government and traditional authorities in advancing development across the Ashanti Region.

On the occasion, Dr. Amoakohene conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Excellency the President to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He also took the opportunity to brief the Asantehene on key development projects currently underway in the region.

The Regional Minister reported that several major projects commenced in January 2026 and are progressing steadily. These include the dualisation of the Asokwa–Ahodwo and Ahodwo–Santasi roads, the Bekwai Roundabout–Santasi road, and ongoing works on the Mankranso–Kumasi road.

Other projects highlighted were the Sekyere Nsuta–Sekyere Kwamang road, the Agogo–Maame Krobo road, and the allocation of land by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the construction of a National Theatre in Kumasi.

Additional initiatives underway include the installation of solar street lighting along key corridors, construction of a Kath Lab under the Mahama Care Fund, development of a modern urban park by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, and various education and health infrastructure projects funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Looking ahead, Dr. Amoakohene outlined key priorities for February, which include accelerating work on the Suame Interchange, advancing the Outer Kumasi Big Push Ring Roads, continuing all projects initiated or resumed in January, and commencing major town road projects across the region.

He noted that these initiatives reflect strong collaboration between traditional authorities, local government, and central government to improve transportation, healthcare, education, public safety, and economic opportunities for residents.

The Regional Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering tangible development outcomes for every community, stressing that unity and sustained cooperation remain critical to advancing the overall progress of the Ashanti Region.
